So 40:1 seems to be the popular ratio with a quality, synthetic, brand name oil?

40:1 is fine but it is all in your preference and type of riding.  I ran my KX for 14 years at 60:1 (woods riding). On rebuild there was little wear and no carbon.  If I was desert racing or other high RPM I might mix 50:1.  My outboard runs 100:1 yamalube. Cam.

It will be a mix. Hopefully I can get it plated for short street jaunts, and then some dez riding.

I'd rather err on the safe side, but don't want to be blubbery, or run hot and seize either.

Others have stated running 100:1 with high quality lubricants with no problems. Not saying I would run that mixture but that is out of my own fears. However, I'm not about to judge a company or its product by my own fears or disbelief especially since I have heard/read about oils performing at these levels. In our lifetimes we have seen oils/lubricants change dramatically. How many semi synthetic or synthetic oils were around in the '80s? Bikes back then were still rated to run at 32:1. We cant stay in the past and let technology pass us by or we dont reap the benefits of said technology.

Lots of oils have been the same since the 80's  Yamalube, BelRay MC-1, Goldenspectro,  Maxima Super-M, and more all from the 80's both semi and full synthetic.  I prefer castor based oil myself as it makes more power over synthetic and contributes to the combustion process.

My "Bultaco" and "CZ" manuals tell me to run USED Drain oil out of your car....  Silly people  Spending good money on oil when your throwing away some for free every 3,000 miles.....   

By the way Did I mention I run Royal Purple stuff now?
