KX shock
« on: May 20, 2010, 10:11:00 AM »
I've got a question?, recently the seal on my 91 K5  shock needed replaced, i went to a local dealer that wasnt a kawasaki dealer, they took it apart and the shaft had a couple of nicks in it, the guy told me it would be in the hundreds of dollars for just the shaft alone,ok i told him just to replace the seal just to get me through the summer and then i would buy another shock. he said he couldnt do that and that i would have to buy the whole kit which is the shaft, seal etc. the whole thing would of been around $500. my question is do i have to buy the whole kit or can i just replace the seal, he said they dont sell just the seal, so i bought a shock off of ebay for $100. thanks in advance.

Yes you can get the sealhead or the seal. I have got my 90 shock apart currently and have the seal, but can't figure out how to install it into the sealhead. I will probably just purchase one of these sealheads.

your local dealer can order a sealhead from parts unlimited. dont waste your time with just the seal
I did mine a couple of seasons ago I think it was $50

I agree with Green Cannon. Just get a sealhead. Let us know how it goes.

If the shaft is nicked or scored the new seal won't last long. Your mechanic is right. New seal to get you through the season...maybe one ride!
