I crashed yesterday and mangled the Rear frame assembly on my KX.  Anyone know where I can get a replacement.  I don't know if I can get a new one from the dealer, but thats a last option.  New parts are too expensive.

R U talking about the subframe? cause I have a  1 that needs a small repair and one that is fine it just has some chain rub damage..they r off a 91 if they will fit or not I do not know.. Ebay is always good sometimes you have to search for the specific part because it might not be at auction but at an Ebay  store

I bought one for my '04 at AC Racing  http://acracing.com/itemdetails.cfm?id=607  It covers '90 thru '04.  Might call and see if they have one for your bike.

I tried a mallet to fix it from when I got the bike, It's been crashed before.  My biggest thing right now is the front seat bracket is gone. It broke off and went flying. There was no way for me to find it. Not in the shape I was in at that time. I had my bell rung hard. After I get the bike fixed, I need to get a new helmet.

So, yes, I can pound it back into shape, if I can get the measurements for the front seat backet, I can make a new one and weld it on.

As for other years fitting, I doubt it. 87 seems to have been the bastard year when everything changed(before and after).

The later subframes won't work. We '87 owners are screwed . The '87 subframes extend forward past the upper shock mount mount by an almost freakish amount. The later bikes are of the standard mordern pattern where the upper subframe mount is located near the upper shock mount/at top of the wishbone. Later tanks won't work either BTW.

Motosport sells a Park Tool bar/subframe straightener. They're around $60........cheaper than buying a subframe and some bars.

I got the rear frame pretty straight, but I still need the front seat mount. I can make it if anyone out there is willing to take some measurements for me.

Yeah, my entire bracket is gone.  All I need is the thickness of the aluminum, hight of the bracket(from top of tube to top of bracket), overall width of the bracket, and the distance of the seat "tang" from each side. From there, I can fab up a new bracket and weld it on.

Material thickness: .120" / 3mm
Bracket width: .955" / 24.3mm
Overall height @ forward edge*:1.637" / 41.6mm
Overall height @ aft edge*: 1.44" / 36.6mm
Tab width (side to side): 1.15" / 29.2mm
Tab aft protrusion (from aft edge of bracket): .855" / 22.5mm
Distance between legs: 5.1" / 129.55mm
Distance between tab and bracket**: .090" / 2.3mm

*The bracket "leans back" relative to the upper rails. I apologize for not measuring the angle, but the height measurements will get you there just as well.

**The bracket is fabbed w/ the tab as an integral part. The "tab" is placed in the center of the span, and is raised from the top plane of the bracket by two joggles (one on each side of the tab, of course). Not to be didactic, but if you choose to weld a tab to the top of the bracket, you can simply add a .090" piece of material in between.

I made a new seat bracket but ended up not getting it welded on. Turns out that I have 3 broken mounts and when we tried rewelding them, the aluminum under the surface puddled before the surface would. No matter how much we cleaned the surface, there was too much contamination to get a puddle going. So now I am back to looking for a complete replacement. Or I'll fab a new one up out of steel   I did find one on ebay, but it has a couple mounts missing and I don't want to mess with trying to fix another one.

I have a buddy that just called the other day. He bought a parts bike for the motor and I think he's willing to sell the bare frame and sub-frame.  I believe its somewhere around '86-'88.  I'll check and post back.
