1960's dual sport
« on: November 03, 2008, 04:59:17 AM »
I've gotton into dual sport riding big time in the last few years.  My buddy I ride with sent me this to show how easy we have it now.  Check out some of the cars in the back ground of some of the pictures.
I'm sure many of the areas can no longer be ridden.

All I can say is WOW.... The KX500 doesnt seem so out dated anymore. We DO have it easy! That is like a treasure mine of old pictures... or a time capsule even. Amazing stuff for sure!

Next time I go to Little Sahara Okla. I'm taking the KLR650 just to check it out.  If they can do it on BSA's and Triumph's then the KLR should be a piece of cake.  Most of the old bikes in the pictures with sand have trials looking tires.  No paddle tires that I saw.

Those photographs make me wish i had a time machine, the shots are beautiful and convey a sense of freedom that seems a world away to me. It must have been amazing to have been young then.....

When i finish my 125 restoration i have 4 BSA's to get through, all were owned by my father and his late brother who were supported trials riders in the 60's.

First one to recieve my attention will be my dad's semi-works C15T which was the trials specific model and was parked with just 354miles under it's belt after he broke his leg on the 3rd day of the '63 SSDT at 17 years of age. Thats 44 years of dust waiting to be removed!

There is another C15T that he completed the SSDT on and two B40 scramblers - should keep me going for the best part of a decade!

That is as good as watching "On Any Sunday". I still remember my first few rides in that era. ID kx500
