fork upgrade 1989
« on: October 08, 2008, 12:10:10 PM »
Search as I might, I just can't find an answer to a question.  That is, if I wish to upgrade my 1989 old style forks to a newer inverted style from another KX500, what are my triple clamp options?  Can I press a stem out of one and into another? :?

Anyone know of a bolt on solution?

Any 90 on up KX500 triples would bolt on. Go to the All Balls bearing site and do some cross referencing to see what bikes shared the steering head bearings. KLXs and KDXs shared them, but I doubt you would want to swap them on. You may have to press your stem into another bikes triple to make it work.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

I got a complete blue 93 kx500 front end (forks, tripples and bearings)with a new set of springs still in the box I'd be willing to part with.

All Balls shows the same PN for 1989 and 1992 so that part looks good.  Anyone know if the stem lengths are similar?

We may have inverts this spring.

Any BIG reason to go with the later 07 on or earlier 93-96 inverted forks?  What's a good price range?

I'm guessing I'll need forks, triple clamps, and brake caliper.  Anything else?

I'll buy your triple clamps if there for 46mm forks. :-D

I scored an inverted set on that auction site.  Now I need a caliper.  What years will fit the '95 forks?  Are 125s and 250s the same?

I'm got the forks so cheap that I'll send them off and have them revalved and sprung for my slow poke woods riding.  Any suggestions?  I was thinking MX Tech.
