Cleaning Carbon out of Exhaust (kx500)

Hey all,
What is the best way to clean the inside of your exhaust (carbon)? I going to have some more questions in a week or so, when I start putting my top end back together.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hughes,
Thats cool. Thats the way I have always done is but didn't know it was the "right" way. It also helps burn out any additional oil residue that coats the pipe. As I recall the pipe will ocasionally "pop" loudly when doing this. Cam.

Oven cleaner works well too, just spray the inside and let it sit for a long time and it will just wipe away. The cleaners with the most dangerous warning labels work the best, haha.

I had to do the something similar once, but I just built a fire in the back yard and thew the pipe in the fire. The next morning all the carbon was burnt out of it.

Thanks for the info. seems like a blow torch is the best way to clean it out. I will also spray some oven cleaner in it today and let it sit.
Guy down the street suggested build a fire and clean it that way.....I live in Nor Cal and fires arent socially acceptable in the summer time. LOL
Thanks again,
Daniel

Just a little tip. If you spray oven cleaner in the pipe do not breath it when you start heating up the pipe with the torch. I would just heat the pipe up and then see how clean you can get it. If you really want it clean, I would just heat up the pipe with the torch and then after it cools put a few small rocks in the pipe and put it in the back of your car and truck and ride around with it for a week. You would be surprised how clean the inside will get.

maybe i'm wrong but wouldn't heating up a chromed pipe red hot permanently discolor the chrome? if you didn't care about the look of the chrome it would be no big deal. just wondering, MADDOGGY
