Hello from London, England
« on: September 08, 2008, 11:25:37 AM »
Hi guys, my details are below

Nick - London, England
mid 40's - ridden a bike EVERYDAY since I was 9, ice, snow whatever.
current bike GSXR 750 K2 owned from new - and I love it to bits
I can strip, rebuild anything, own mini workshop.

Basically I've been offered a 92 KX500 SM + enduro bits, road legal, off a very close mate but he cooked the motor about 8 years ago and its been in his garage ever since with the top end stripped off her.

Cash is in short supply (isn't it always) so I'm testing the water first to check out what its gonna cost to repair & what would it be like to live with (daily commute), - ESPECIALLY the 4 speed box !!! and the kick starting (previously smashed ankle) + I went 'over the bars' twice starting a 78 XT 500 I owned  years ago.

Anyway, thanks for letting me in - I won't let you down (SUZUKI...cough ...cough LOL)

Nick

Mmmm, thats a good point - thanks for the info
I was told it only had 4 speeds
when I rode it years ago it only had 4 speeds
which for a balls out nutter 2 stroke 500 MX'er made sense to me
it pulled like a train

Maybe its worse than I thought - sounding even more expensive

I will investigate more

Some of the old SR500s (the works versions of KX500s) had four gears so maybe theres SR internals in there?

KXs should have five gears but I know of at least one SR engine (its an ex Dave Thorpe bike) thats kicking about over in the UK.

Well I went back and asked the question
he thought about it and is now not sure if it was 4 or 5

So I'll have to buy it and let you know.
