What parts have to remain on the bike in order for it to qualify as a dirtbike?
Just wonderin like
Engine, frame, and subframe or does it still have to have the same wheels and forks?
Well......this started when I saw the F2 guys promoting their Honda CRF as the W'sFDB at 121mph. With Stewart working on the motor and myself on the body/frame, we followed the F2 guys lead and ran in the same class.
As far as what defines a dirt bike or iron head harley or busa or XXXXX.....this is an especially tough question in LSR. It seems that a few things are 'socially' required for a bike to be considered something other than a purpose built land speed bike.
Firstly, 500 units need to be manufactured and available for sale. This keeps a works tz250 from slapping around an rd250lc.
The engine and frame should be from the same manufacture.
Finally, often competitors try to keep something unique or specific to the bike. I kept the stock tank and radiator shrouds. Everyone recognized it was a dirt bike, but very few knew how big the engine was.
Keep in mind the competition rules don't care what anyone 'calls' the bike. My comments are directed toward the arguement of once you stretch the swing arm, lower the suspension, and put a different seat on it is not a dirt bike anymore.
What about hill climbers, dirt track bikes, or dune bikes??

as a side note......I am happy we bettered '
the 124mph KTM' Last year the F2 guys went 121 and reported getting tons of hate email and links to the KTM page!
