I checked out that link.  Lots of familiar names.  NHRS, Aaron Wilson, and Tim Horton are good pals of mine.  Tim went down I believe.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, our clan held 1000 P/PP, 1650 A/PG and M/PG.  My 15 minutes of fame.

Your class MPS/P, what does the last P stand for?

PP Production Pushrod 12.B
PV Production Vintage 12.C
PB Production Supercharged 12.D
PG Pushrod: Gasoline 12.E
PF Pushrod: Fuel 12.F
PBG Pushrod, Supercharged: Gasoline 12.G
PBF Pushrod, Supercharged: Fuel 12.H

and this is only the first part of the list  :-o

Was this with the SCTA or AMA/BUB sanctioning group? I am pretty sure the busa's have taken over the 1300cc and 1650cc classes, but the 1000 might still stand?

But MPS/P would be Modified Partial Streamline/Production Engine?..... I didn't know that class existed.  No biggie, just bench racing.  Their classification structure requires a jurist doctorate to follow.  The important thing is having the trophy.

We ran Sportsters in the Pushrod classes.  No Busa's allowed.  And speaking of law degrees.... we exploited the rules book in 2002 with our 1650 Sportster and beat a turbo charged Busa for the ECTA points championship.  Oh.... they were PI$$ED!

Take a look at 2002:  http://www.ecta-lsr.com/?page_id=82

Believe it or not, that's a Sportster.  My highest speed was 180 MPH.

This whole 'thing' started with me when I saw the guys from F2 racing bragging that they had the World's Fastest Dirt Bike. I wanted to beat the 4s and they were running MPS / P so we worked to fit whatever rules they were running.

I am really stoked that Dave and Steve from F2 are great competitors and nice guys. It is always more fun when there is a race!! We have been emailing each other about next year and it turns out they are ready for more!

Well Done! As you know......

I know first hand how hard it is to compete and be successful on the salt.  It looks much easier on the internet sidelines.

For what it is worth, I believe the fastest 500cc sit-on bike was a super trick TZ ridden just a bit south of 170mph by Scott Guthrie, an extremely capable/clever LSR racer. You might remember him from Maxton???

Everyone says it, but Stewart, Dave (K5Abuser), Kevin (my driver) and I are serious ......... Wait Till Next Year!!!

That's sooo funny.  We started racing when we heard that a group of online Moto Guzzi guys took 1000 P/PP from a Sportster.  Through it all we became friends and hung out at Maxton with them.  We also made friends with Aaron Wilson of NHRS and the Team Elves gang.  People flew in from Austrailia and Europe when we were racing.  We'd all meet at Aarons house in Denver and tune on his dyno.  Some of the best memories I have.

For what it is worth, I believe the fastest 500cc sit-on bike was a super trick TZ ridden just a bit south of 170mph by Scott Guthrie, an extremely capable/clever LSR racer. You might remember him from Maxton???

I know Scott Guthrie pretty well.  He gave me some pretty good pointers.  Things that he didn't share with just anyone.  He appreciated us as an underdog, I believe.  He'd stop by our pit and I'd suck up every word he said.  The most important theme was 'aerodynamics.'  It's every bit as important as HP.

Aaron Wilson is probably every bit as capable as Guthrie.  He predicted his first pass down the salt to within 1 MPH and took the record.  No one does that by accident.

Everyone says it, but Stewart, Dave (K5Abuser), Kevin (my driver) and I are serious ......... Wait Till Next Year!!!

But of course!

We sold T-shirts online and cleared around $15,000.00 dollars.  Buy 'em for $6 and sell them for $12 or nice golf shirt and ball cap coffee mug for $100.  We had a graphic artist in our group draw up the designs.  I was a fund raising FIEND.

Yeah.... nice lime green shirt, big black letters

Some learned the hard way .How lucky for you to have that rare knowledge and you are here to share it with us . go ahead we won't tell anyone  :-D . its like saying i saw big daddy don garllets run the 1/4  and all the old guys . tony alva thought me how to skate board but i didn't know who he was  ( movie :the lords of dog town the Z boys )  till 4 years ago . he was the one that started the pool riding .so kodus to you and may the knowledge benefit you and us . just your close personal friends .

Did somebody say shirts .... http://cardboardrobot.com/ or their online store http://www.merchco-online.com/cardboardrobot/

Come on Stewart, don't forget about CBR. Email me if something catches your eye. Dave?

Yeah.... nice lime green shirt, big black letters

Just a comment tossed from the hip...Spectro Oil colors are blue and yellow, Adam Bomb is sort of a olive green, Glenn Curtiss Motorsports is blue and black. The Wolbrink Race logo is black on black.

the Team Green guys didn't help much, in fact they "wished" I wasn't doing this on the KX, "now if we were to use a currently available retailable bike that would be a different story."

Sorry to dissapoint, but I am not sure lime green would be fair to everyone that did step up and help!

The Modified bike looks great.  It's obvious you guys put some thought into the chassis and body work.

It's strange to see a dirt bike on the salt with full fenders and all.  Did the front fender wag and wobble at speed?  It looks a bit smaller than the one on my bike.  Are you sure it was STOCK???   :-D

According to my GPS I went 76.6 mph on my K5, on the highway, flat ground, non DOT knobbies, and it had more throttle, but I let off.  The faster I go the more the road looks like a belt sander.  I can't imagine going over a hundred on my bike.  76.6 was scary to me and the bike felt loosey goosey.  I balance my wheels and I have a steering dampener but it felt like it could go into high speed handle bar slapping the tank wobble.

Hey Mark, did you balance your tires and all?

Absolutely!

Wheel assemblies where statically balanced and then double checked with a dynamic balancer.

76.6 was scary to me and the bike felt loosey goosey.  I balance my wheels and I have a steering dampener but it felt like it could go into high speed handle bar slapping the tank wobble.

In the attached photo I was able to stretch or squish and move my tail forard and back maybe an inch, not more. Moving forward and back within that inch changed the weight balance enough that the front end would start to waltz.

http://www.scootershoots.smugmug.com/gallery/6013406_4JM7d#377166360_P9m7L-XL-LB

Also, at speed a too tight damper can cause wobblies....try loosening it to one click from off.

Hey look at the heat ripples coming out of the exhaust in the larger photo!! The photo is a down run midway between the timing points..... at 117 mph!

I have never tested this idea, but I wonder if the tire pressure typically run in knobbies would allow an aweful lot of centrifical stretch of the tire sidewall. All that extra material has to do something....maybe wobble?!?
