1990 kx 500 build up
« on: August 23, 2008, 10:51:36 AM »
Hi every one, i'm new here. I tryed the search function for a lot of my questions but havn't been able to answer this one. I recently got a 1990 k5 and i'm about to send my suspension off to get revalved. I know the new k5's came with better suspension. i'm pretty sure any way. Would it be worth it for me to buy some forks off ebay that came off a newer bike? if so what year would work with mine? Did kawasaki change the rear shock at all over the years? i was also wondering if anybody has made a 2 piece clutch cover for these bikes.   any help would be greatly appreciated..

thanks

hey charlie ,
if you want to buy forks off ebay, make sure you measure well
thickness of the outertubes could be different ,
also if you take a 94 by ex.the calipermountholes are way diff ,then your 90 caliper
also the frontwheel axle is diff in some m.y. it became thicker through out the years
also the axle clamps are diff in 88/89 they had one side clamped ,other side is a hole.
and from 91 or so both sides clamps
beyond 94 i  don,t know cuzz my newest is 94
succes

there is a set on ebay right now off a 2004 that comes with triple clamps. That should work right? The frame hasn't changed from 1990-2004 am i wrong? would 04 forks be better than 1990 forks?
