Ceramic Bearings?
« on: July 29, 2008, 08:42:13 PM »
Anyone used them yet? Any good?

I know theres a few threads where they are mentioned but I can't seem to find any where the person has actually used them to give any feedback.
Doordie? Stewart? BDI?

I remember Doordie mentioning them in his wasted Crank thread but not heard any more about them.

The reason I am asking is because someone on another forum I go on was asking and I remembered some comments on here, anyone?

Regards Scott.

You might already know this, ceramic bearings will dissipate heat very quickly, their running surface is smoother which reduces friction and wear. I have no experince with them. In a dirt bike engine I could only see a benifit if the engine is highly modified and turns at high rpms for extended peroids of time.

Another forum?  WHAT??  :-( Are you 2 timing us?  Could that be Visor Down?  I just rejoined their forum yesterday and saw your name in one of the threads.  I've heard about the ceramic bearings but all I know is they cost allot more.

Yup, I'm just a dirty cheat :-D
It's not Visordown, I used that forum for ages but it rapidly went downhill after the owner sold it to a magazine, the search function was broken, and it generally went arse up and got a bit sweary.
Not used it since just after cristmass.

Quite a few of the people on there moved over to therevcounter.com and so far its OK. There the odd numpty but the moderators seem able to get a handle on it.

Cheers, Regards Scott.

Thanks for that, I have viewed that site a few times as I was recently given a "broken"* Stihl 038 chainsaw and was looking for details on it.

Good info on the bearings as well, Can't say I am going to start using them but its all good stuff all the same.
Thanks.

* As it turned out it wasn't broken at all, it just needed the carb cleaned out and fresh petrol putting in it :-D Chuffed to bits.

No exactly, but if it spinns with less friction, you should notice at better throttlerespons and less vibration. :-)
