Hi everybody I'm new here.Sorry for my english I speak french.Ok I buy a 2001 kx 500 an a have a new rebuilt crank and top end.I have boyesen radvalv(new) full fmf gnarly pipe and a E-LINE stator.I m running 175 mainjet ,58 pilot ,3rd clip.I run 15-47 gearing on mid-hard terrain an run 85mph.An today 15-43 an only 89mph.Since the beginning I think this bike is not as is well.Any body can help me?Every body tell this his a monster when they see the bike but I m not sure of that .I think the powervlve work good I chek it it the cover off an the rod seem to work when I turn the gas on at neutral.I m not''mecanik man''Thanks

it may help if you explain the following:

1) do you ride motocross or trail riding?
2) what specifically do you mean that it isn't running right (speed, jetting, power)?  what is happening that you don't like?

stock gearing is 14/47.  you have it geared for fast desert type riding

My daughter speaks some french so if you need to email using some french i can try and have her interpret for others on this thread.

1-trail riding,beach, no mx track
2-jetting is not perfect but just on low end it is not my main problem but Top speed if I compare to some research on the site that supose to be a plane with 15-43 is me problem:?like +100mph no?? That's what I don't like 89mph with a  gps is ok or not?Maybe the trouble is in my head

Baja racers use to use 16/42 gearing and they could go somewhere around 115mph.  i have seen other desert racers using your same setup.  their engines had porting and head mods to pull the taller gearing.  maybe the taller gearing is to hard to pull in the sand.

i will let other desert racers comment on their sucess with pipes and gearing.  i use a 15/47 but i am not looking for as much speed as you are.

whats is your topspeed whit 15-47?Mine is 85mph

Cobra, do you have any friends who are police?  Maybe you could have one of them measure your speed with radar.  How accurate is civilian gps at measuring groundspeed?

i have never measure my top speed.  i have a dry lake i have had it on and by the time i get to full speed my helmet feels like it will rip my head off and my vision gets blurry so i slow down.

I have some old magazine articles from desert champions(destry Abbott and Paul Krause) that i will find and post thier old setups if you want.  i can't post them until monday.

No friend police just enemy police for me :-DGps is really clos to my car 1or2 kilometer difference at 200 kph.

The compression is good I think 180lbs cold.Maybe the trouble is between my ear.I m just a little dissapointed because when i read some gearing and speed calculator setup it is not the result of mine.But I not really test other machine just an banshee 350 with some modification and I eat it like a scooter
