500 vs 250 weight
« on: June 23, 2008, 04:53:36 AM »
I've been tossing around stuffing my '89 500 motor in my '02 250 frame.  So I looked at the weights of both bikes.  It appears that the 500 is about 220 dry and the 250 is 213.  That's not much!

I really feel more at home on the 500.  Might be because I've spent more time on it.  But for an occasional spode like me, I'm having trouble justifying the effort of the swap.

Is there really only 7 lbs difference in weight?  Is the 250 chassis THAT much better that it feels THAT much better?

GW,
It's not the actual weight that you feel but the perception of wieght based on how the bike handles overall.  They have made a number of discoveries in the later year frames about adding or removing flex at certian locations to make the bike handle better and turn better. That is the main reason that new chassis "feel" better and ride "lighter" even thought the actual weight is not much different.  My new 450 rides tons lighter than my K5 but the K5 is noticably easier to hoist onto a stand.
