We were at the armigosa sand dunes and their was this guy riding with us on a 450 he didn't know me or any thing about my bike. I had been idling along with the pack just taking it easy then we come to are first stop and this guy pulls up next to me and counts the paddles on my bike (keep in mind I only run an eight cup turbo) so this guy looks me in the eye and says you should try a six cup. I say why in the hell would I do that? he says " your bike could pull a six cup better".I realize at this point that this guy really has no idea. So at this point I take the lead of the ride and of course he's right behind me on his 450, so I decide to give him a 70+ horse power at the tire demo. Now all of my buddies know better then to be anywhere within 250' behind my bike but like I said this guy was clueless. I wish I had what the guy had to say on video the next time we stoped.     :-D :-D

i got behind BDI one time and his roost blew me off my bike. and for the 6 cup i tried one on my 250 and it helped coming out of the hole but was much slower overall. about mid hill it was like i was just spinning with no bite. and just riding the dunes felt like i was on tarmac with a flat. for the racers most think if your not on the newest bike and your bike isn't setup like the pros bike your on a old slow dinosaur.

Clueless is the perfect terminology. People just have no idea. I am amazed that even people who work at the bike shops are clueless.  I just tell people that there is no point in arguing unless we are on the bikes and I can SHOW you.  I love it how people chop the throttle with a quickness when you get in front of them in the sand.  That SH** stings!  My bike is just stock with a pipe and I've never even had a challenge in the sand.  And by the way... if that guy thought you should have had a 6 cup then he doesnt know his a** from a hole in the ground. I wouldnt run a 6 on a stock 250 and I run a 10 on my KX. What is a 6 for? a KX100? Maybe a 125 so it doesnt bog? which in my opinion has no business being in the sand anyways unless you like changing your top end frequently. The K5 really is "The Big Dune Daddy".

:-D great stories to read , such a crack up. i race in the vet class here in nz i had one fella come up to me after the first moto moaning i had roosted his brand new rmz 250 with bolders the size of bolling balls. he had the best gear you could buy looked like a factory rider,  not after the race thou,  would not     line up next to me after the first race.  had quite a few comments about the hard roost from the 5 . personley i love getting roosted. mind you havent been roosted buy a 5. hmmmmmmmmmm.

That's true we we're at dumont dunes my buddy Mike was in front. Mike goes up this steep little dune that was only chest high. It launches Mike strait up and he comes down on the lip with the throttle wicked wide open and shoots this beautiful roost strait back. So I think to my self, that looked sweet!! I'm going to do the same thing. I go off the lip in second and it shoots me strait up as I reach the stall point of my air time I lean forward to bring the nose down, stab third gear and wick the throttle wide open so when I hit the ground I'm pined  in third. Like I was saying this little dune was only chest high and bigbellybob was derectly behind me. I guess My roost hit bob derectly in the chest and peeled him right off his bike. Sorry Bob

Hey roost can be a wonderful thing.  I once won a race using 500 roost as my weapon. Last few laps, out of shape, totaly exhausted but each lap I suckerd the guy in second into coming up right behind me in the same gravel corner.  Then I pulled the trigger!  I ran into a ground of riders last weekend, the usual  250/450 mix and one young guy with a 93 KX500.  I told him that it was nice to see he was the only one in the group on a "mans" bike.   I think he liked that. Cam.

ps. yeah I know I only have a "girly-mans" 450 now.  Not the same.

you dont see the 500 here much in nz they used to be every where about 10 years ago. i surpose 4 strokes changed that. i have had a few mates that have stopped racing because of the costs. not me im still pluggin away on my k5.    they young riders love my big 5 big gogly eyes. when you nail a corner perfectly .   how do you find the 450 cam. comparied to the k5.   im tossing up to buy one as well but still going to keep my k5.
