i would also like to know. the tech on here seems a little slow with the older models. I have a 87 that needs a new crank.  :-(

Could I use an 89-04 crank in my 88?

The older cranks had the primary gear held on with a woodruff key and a nut, the newer cranks have splines and the gear is held on with a circlip. You could use a newer crank in your older motor, provided you obtained the gear as well.
