First time offender from the U.K
« on: May 03, 2008, 06:08:43 AM »
Hi Guys.

Just found this site today "awsome", and as mentioned in some of the threads I have read, there is not a lot to be found about 500's on U.K sites.

Just got my 500 road legal today.

I bought it about 18 months ago, but due to the floods last July, this is the first opportunity I've had to get it legal again.

I've never done Moto X in my life so I just use it on the road.

It's been tricked out a little and certainly turns a few heads.

No doubt I will be tapping into the wealth of expertise and knowledge from yourselves.

Cheers for now

Gus

Thanks for the welcome and the praise guys.

Cam and Gowen, I spent most of my working day reading an extensive 20 page novel entitled  "Jetting!!! Again and again and again!"  (Great reading!!) and various other short stories in the forum.  What an insight into the world of KX500 set up.

The last time I owned a stroker was a Yamaha FS1E in 1979 so I am not up to speed with the 5ive yet.

I have realised that although my 5iver starts and runs it is not right.

I have the black stuff coming out of the "exhaust port" and the "rubber elbow", it coughs, splutters and smokes at low revs but improves when opened up.

I appreciate that you guys will want as much information as possible regarding my set up and riding conditions so I will make a list of what my spec. is.

It is a 1991. I don't know of any engine mod's apart from a direct fit "RamAir" foam filter(see pics.).

Before I give you the spec. should I be running mineral or synthetic and at what ratio?

Reading some of the posts I hear of crank seals and other seals etc, failing.  Is there a set sequence of tests that can be done to eliminate or find certain faults.  I will wait until I've provided you with my spec. first.

I am going to a local MX meet on Sunday to see if I can find a sympathetic sole to advise me or offer help (if anyone local has a 5iver).

Many thanks in advance, much appreciated

Gus

P.S.

For any of you U.K. guys I'm in Tewkesbury if anyone can help.

Cheers

Am from the UK myself and have seen that bike (or something just like it) on Ebay a few years ago..

If I am right its been on this site before, VFR 400 swingarm and back wheel?

By the looks the forks are off a 90 500?  They look the same as the ones on both of my 90s and the 91s were anodised blue.

Oh and I owned a fizzy as well, I bought it in about 88 but it was a P rteg one so about 13 years old then...  LHH 709P where are you now :-(

Yep, bought it off E-bay.

I rang Kawasaki U.K. yesterday to find out some more on the bike.  The guy thought it was an '89 but he couldn't be sure because the frame number on the bike and the paperwork has a digit missing!!!!!!!!!!

So it may be a BITSA

Its been registered for 10 years.

Yeah FIZZY.  I bet you would have kept yours if you knew they would be going for ?3000+ now.

I can't remember who owned that KX (sure someone on heres had it at some point)  but its a nice looking conversion all the same.

Yep I would have looked stupid riding that Fizzy now but its the only bike I have ever got rid of that I miss.

Hi KX500freak

Here is some light reading about the FIZZY

It was a busy weekend so there was no work done to the KX  but I managed to get my Z1000 streetfighter running.

This picture was taken today.  It was built 10 years ago with a lot of help from this guy James Clark and is in need of a re-fit.  There ain't much left that is standard.  It has got a fairly big spec. but not as big as some of them.

I will post the KX spec. as soon as I get a chance to strip the carb and list the rest.

Cheers
