Stock500 Is Ready To Do Some Mods
« on: November 12, 2008, 03:07:58 PM »
When I first got my bike last year I thought it was perfect the way it was.  After riding it for a year I now feel that there are times that I need a little extra.  I am looking to keep the stock power curve as much as possible.  I really like low-mid range power, but I don't want to loose top end to get low end.  It Seems like when it comes to mods it is a give and take, you either get low end and loose top end or the other way around.  I am thinking about a pipe (and silencer if they make any difference), and some reeds.  Again I would love to keep the all around smooth power that comes stock, but if I have too give anywere I think that the top end is the place that I would be willing to let go just a little bit.  I would love to hear what you guys think, would make the best all around power gains.

I would get a with a flywheel weight. I dont believe it will change your top end (I didnt notice a difference on mine). That will help with traction and its very easy to install and remove.

Pipe, Silencer, Reeds, Bolt Mod, ect all make a difference. It was put well by the k5Abuser, each part is an upgrade, gaining %'s with each part. All upgrades together make the monster. Don't know if you keep stock power curve, but you can adjust new power to be linear. I mean, as long as it is true and consistent power, it doesn't sling you off the back when it surprises you, because you only gained top or something.
My personal opinion is that reed spacers and Flywheel weights, only make the bike easier to ride, not giving you power gains. "Thats good too", I know.

I have a Flywheel weight and was ready to install it till I talked to Stewart about extra load on the crank key. I have seen first hand what a broken key will do to a crank and flywheel. Not a pretty site when the key brakes!

You can't go wrong with Stewart's mods!!

I just put my 01 back together today after getting the cylinder and head back from Stewart...

I just did the break in runs but I mean HOLY COW!

He did the Kips mod and bolt, cleaned up the cylinder, lapped the head and set the valves.  He is a great person to deal with and extremely knowlegeable about our bikes... He also sold me the Wiseco piston with the window in it..

This bike is UFB!

Have fun!
