KX250 DONOR BIKE
« on: January 29, 2008, 07:43:31 AM »
Are there any salvage yards or dealers where I can find a KX250 or KX125 (96-up) to transplant my KX500 engine into.  I don't want to spend too much.  $900 seems to be what my mind is willing to consider.  The bike doesn't have to be running but I would like to start with a solid and complete machine (with or without engine).

Any help would be great!

jb if you find one for a motor like 1999 or 2000 maybe we can make a deal for the motor. i'm looking for a second motor for my 2000 kx 250. need a backup so i can always be able to ride.

I don't know of any salvage yards you could pick up a roller, I've bought 4 different chassis/rollers off ebay, the last was aluminum. I would think you could get a roller for 900 no problem, especially if you would use the wheels from your 500. I wouldn't use a 125 chassis, if you do you'll have to cut the downtubes and move them to accomodate the 500 motor, the 250 chassis will accept the 500 motor with only a motor mount mod, ok a slight head mod as well.

Thats the trick to it from what I understand. Get the complete bike, sell off all the parts that you don't need and then brag to us later about only having $200 bucks invested in the whole project. Some guys have said that they come out ahead somehow. A 450 chasis would be even sweeter. :-D

Thanks, it's hard to find used bikes for the right price in Kansas.
