My First KX500

Hello Everyone,

I have finally bought a 1998 KX500 which was in dry storage for 5 years and has about 30 hrs on it total. It is stock accept for some frame guards and a 13 tooth sprocket.  I went for my maiden ride a few days ago and I love it!  I was tired after an hour of arm wrenching sliding sideways fun!!   I have been riding for years mostly on street, and have had a couple of 2 stroke GP bikes (RG500 and RGV250SP)  and couldn't wait to get a big 2 stroker for the off road!  The last dirt bike I had was a 2005 Husky 510 SMR with the dirt wheels, and what a nice bike, but not quite the same as the big 2 stroke.

Hope to hear what a good spark arrestor to buy is and maybe a pipe.
Richard

Welcome aboard!  Sounds like a nice bike.  Seems like most guys prefer Pro Circuit for pipes.

If you can find a fmf "fatty" thats the one you want ive had an 89 with a fmf gnarly it was good but my 97 has a fatty my best friend owned the 97 prior to myself so ive had many hours wrenching and riding both. it is much snappier, louder and morte breathable than the gnarly whereas the gnarly is  more low end torque. who rides under 6000 rpm any ways? the fatty rules. remember the more air flow in and out  smoothly thru 2 stroke = more POWERRRRRR. Anyways drink and smoke then ride till yer broke. thats the 5 hundy way.

This question really has multiple answers, how are you going to ride it? the FMF is OK if you ride more low-mid range, I think they do make more bottom end, at least seat of the pants, if you want more mid top power go with the Pro Circuit. I have both pipes and like the PC better, plus I can get it in the "works" version, no plated pipes for me ( Now we can start the debate, plated over raw metal)
