Pro Circuit 296 Silencer

Installed a new Pro Circuit 296 silencer on my 2003 KX 500 and it has reduced the top end power by a large amount. Bike ran very well with the stock silencer. I have tried jetting the bike to PC specs and other combinations still no luck. Kawi had loads of snap before putting in the silencer. Is the power reduction normal when using this part ? Bought this silencer because of the lower db's and the spark arrestor. What other silencers should I think of buying. Have the stock pipe on right now but will using  Gnarley IMS in the Spring. Finally what is the difference between a Gnarly and a Gnarly IMS pipe.

I am glad that you posted this as I have been considering getting one of these for quite some time cos my bike is road registered and could do with being a tad quieter.

FMF do a Q series (q being Quiet I assume) pipe but I don't know what its like.

well check these things out. if the stinger and muffler length is longer then 18" then it will change power. also if the id of the muffler is different the the old one. and take apart your old muffler and see how much of your packing is gone. that affects power too. if it's shorter and bigger id, then it will gains some midrange at a lose for topend.

the longer and or smaller the stinger size the more pressure devolpes in the expansion chamber and the more piston head temp incresses thus changing  perfomance  factors

Ive used both the Q and the 296 on my KX 250s. They perform about the same. Some loss of topend, I race enduros on the east coast and really dont miss it. Much tighter than out west. Ive had issues with the Qs breaking the cores so I switched to the P/C 296 with much better reliability. I also like the lower dbs.
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

Look underneath piston at crown and you see dark asch and if you make stinger to small or long,you will see grey asch instead and soon a hole. :-o :cry:
