I remember not too long ago, when WAL-MART onl sold items made in the USA. then Daddy Sam Walton died. and along with him so did that mentality and integrity. when it comes to what Americans buy, it must be considered what is available to buy. the average American is living paycheck to paycheck, as many of us are no doubt. and after the rent or house payment, utilities, groceries, ever increasing gasoline prices, and trying to squeeze some kind of fun into your life, the money left for buying goods like tools, toys, and hoards of cheap disposable motorcycles, lamps, furniture, you name it shrinks by the day. the idea of American pride in craftsmanship is mostly a myth anymore, save a few that hold ontothe skills and knowledge that is quickly dwindlingfrom active memory. how many kids do you know in their teens that are learning a skill, taking up the family business, orkeeping our rich, proud heritage alive? when I think of where we have come from since the end of WW2, its both amazing, as well as sad. we were the premiere of production, inginuity, and raw @$$ backbone in the world. and while technology and biology are ever building the possibilities on hand for human kind, we have lost something.
it comes down to this....WE ARE A CONSUMER SOCIETY. and we will consume the most we can for as little as possible. enter China...producing as much as they can, for as little as possible.
