Need Help
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:33:54 AM »
My clutch hub is fubar, the one that you bolt the springs to. I need to know if the newer model clutch hub will fit.

What if I had the complete 89-04 clutch setup? WOuld it bolt right on?

Your motor is an 88 right? according to the kawi website only the 88 k5 hub will work, or a 88-91 kx250 clutch hub.

A tip for when you land the part. Freeze the inner gear and heat the new hub in the oven. That opens the tolerances just enough to get them back together without a press or a Big F'n Hammer.

Now guys, how about this...using a complete KX500 clutch setup from an '89-04 ('93) on my '88 KX500??

Looks like a lot of the stuff is the same as far as the BuyKawasaki parts numbers go. I'm going to pick up a complete setup and put it in my '88. Easier to find parts that way.

Will post results.
cheers

I think the 88 has a different spline configuration, in other words coarser splines, if you count the number on your 88 I can count the number on a newer hub.

Now Don when you say splines do you mean the inside splines on the clutch hub? Where the clutch hub slides over the shaft I mean.

Please do a count for me so I can check it against what I find.

By my count there are 20 splines, If the 88 is the same as the 87 there are way less maybe 10, even your pictures  of the blow-ups look to have different splines between the 2.  Goodluck, hope the newer works, it will make life easier.

Just to confirm, you are speaking about part 13087 and not 13095?

Counted 20 splines on my 88's clutch hub.

Buying a newer clutch setup.
