Carburetor selection....
« on: September 03, 2007, 02:27:23 PM »
Just got this KX500-E2 and it has a Keihin PJ38 instead of the correct PWK38.  I definitely want to put the correct carb back on it especially since the PJ is used on the red bike and the PWK is the more modern carburetor. My question is this..Should I just find a stock replacement PWK or think of changing to something else such as a Lectron or Mikuni TMX. It really pains me to see Keihin carbs on anything but a H***a.

I know. Right now I am leaning towards a stock PWK. I like the fact that it has a screw adjust idle as compared to the threaded choke knob idle as on the PJ. The only reason I am really asking is because there is a Lectron for sale on eBay right now and it it is tempting. I am definitely familiar with tuning a stock carb but the Lectron is new to me. If it is going to be a hassle to tune and get parts for I will stick with stock. I don't have the time or money for seized top ends due to improper jetting.
