Rode my first 4-stroke
« on: August 20, 2007, 06:21:49 AM »
Well guy's I rode my first 4-stroke this weekend. Now I know what all the hype is about. I'm riding with three other guys from work and I have the only 2-stroke Yamaha they all got YZ450F's all 06 models. These guy have more seat time then I do but I was struggling to hold my own on the tight rocky/roots and the high speed scetion against those 4-strokes. My bike felt good and the suspension was working great but I was riding my but off just to keep them in sight. After about 2hrs of riding my bud told me I sould ride his 450f and I told him that four strokes anit my thing 2 smokes is where it's at but I took him up on his offer. His bike is a 2006 YZ450F with a Rekluse clutch. I was floored board how much faster I was riding his bike the power was so smooth and it made power forever. In the tight/open stuff I was able to stick to their rear fender and had a chance or two to make a pass. I can't explain the differance between the bikes but I was fast and smoother on his 450f then I am on my 2smoke. The Rekluse clutch could have somthing to do with it because that 450f had ultra smooth power. What I really like was I could throw this thing in 3rd gear and leave it. I'm sold. I think after I sell my house next year I'm setting aside enough cash for a new 450

Each bike has it's place.  Right now when I go riding the KX500 people will say "Wow a 2 stroke 500. I've heard of them but this is the first one I've ever seen".  5 years from now "What's a 2 stroke?"  In the X Games this year I think only one guy rode a 4 stroke.  I like 4 strokes also and would like to have a 450 dirt bike just to keep hours off the KX500.  House of Kawasaki has one KX250 left.  07' is the last year, no more 2 stroke KX's over 100 cc's.

The 450f really suited my riding style. I was total amazed of the power delivery differance.

I have a 06 yam. 450f. They have alot of power, and handel a lot better than my 90 kx 5 did but I, keep thinking about that $1,000 plus if it eats one of those valves.

the 450f's are deffinately coming in, in the power delivery and a lot of RnD is going on there for sure. rode my Bud's yz450f a few times and it does have some go to it. do like the tractor action when you bog it thru some tite stuff.

I feel the same way but all the guy's I ride with have four strokes and no issues. I guess the key is keep up on the maintenance that's for anything.
