Heres a quick vid of a "new" dirt rider trying my KX500....
« on: August 13, 2007, 03:17:11 AM »
My buddy Dave is a seasoned street rider, but never really been on a dirt bike.... (especially a sick KX500). After a few rides, now he is hooked on speed......

There is also a clip of me doing a couple of "cleanout" runs.....too bad that gravel road is so "loose" as far as terrain.... if you watch in the vid, I am as far back over the rear fender, and trying to plant the rear tire, and my 500 is just blowing the rear tire off  from lack of traction. In the tacky dirt/ grass the 500 is NASTY as far as violent traction!

I like his reaction about riding the 500.  I think what scares new 500 riders is the fact that they try to ride it like a 125 or 250 which can make the bike very scary.  Once I learned to ride my 500 in a much higher gear than normal, then I loved my 500.  It's funny because a 500 can be the easiest bike to ride but also one of the most tiring.

I could just hear the stuttering and excitement in his voice right after he got off my 500, made me giggle......

KX500 are real rare here in New Hampshire, even more rare is someone who can actually ride one to near its abilities ! Everywhere I take my 5 people just nod their head is disbelief, and past horror rides they themselves took on a 500 years ago. When I bring that 500 to life in a riding area, I immendately have everyone in the parking lot staring at me..... If I had a dime for every guy that comes up to me and said: "Wow a 500 !!!....dude you are crazy....... I almost killed myself on one of those years ago....."

I just comment to myself, you can kill yourself on a 125 also (you just kill your self going much slower.. LOL )

Great vid.  I truly appreciated the comments made during the video.  I rode my 5 for the first time on 7.7.07 and, unfortunately, didn't make it 40 mins before I was on my way to the emergency room (separated shoulder - still healing).  I've ridden dirt bikes my entire life (33 years old) but never saddled up on a 500.  I wanted one for a long time so I picked one up.  I've NEVER - NEVER - NEVER experienced that power-to-weight ratio on anything else I've ridden.  I don't personally know anyone who can ride one even remotely close to the bike's potential...but I'm looking forward to healing up and getting back on.

They are fast. Nice vid you can hear it in his voice. I went from a 86yz250 to a 98 kx500. I knew what a wanted. It was a world of differance. When I first got it I tried shifting through the gears like I did my yz completly forget the amount of throttle you dont need. 1st and 2nd gear was fine but as soon has I hit 3rd while on the throttle the front tire started to leave the ground and never touched till I slowed down. I drove it back to my truck parked it sat on the tailgate for awhile and waited for my legs and hands to stop shacking. That was my first rush my my bike!! :-D
