Looks quite a lot like the one I bought over here (the UK) for my supermoto.

Can't say I have been too impressed by it to be honest but mines for the road so maybe I am expecting too much of it, I was looking at getting one of the 200watt Elineaccessories ones but theres a few people on here that said thet the centre can damage the extra windings in the ignotion cover that you get with the kit which sounds a bit badly made if you ask me so currently I am hoping that AJ manages to produce something to do the trick as mines like a glow worms arse.

I had one of those In my kx500 It goes behind the flywheel It don't put out much power I used It with the E-line coil that bolts on the outside. I used the small coil to run a whip light and some L.E.D.'s and the 200 watt E-line coil to to run some big baja lights for ripping the dunes at night. Riding the dunes at night on a kx500 sucks If your on the gas the lights are pointing at the sky. If your not on the gas the lights are to dim because the e-line coils output Is rpm dependent do to the fact their's no battery and putting a battery and full on charging system looks like a pain In the ars to me. Putting lights on the kx500 Is one of those expensive and disapointing adventures I wish I would have never undertaken.  lights

I have used E-Line coils on my 02 YZ250 2t and 426 as well as my g/friends 03 KX250 with absolutely no problems. We ocasionally ride at night on some seriously tight trails and can go at a pretty good clip. I have heard of ignition issues with some of the other stator plate mounted coils. I like the e-Lines because they are independent of the ignition.

was thinking of streeting it, what do y'all think would be good enough for that? not looking to do a bunch of night riding, but may need to find my way home sometime or another. and will need something to be able to get a lisense plate.

The small coil would be good for that It actually puts out a lot of It's power at low rpms for some reason.

anybody know if there are any good LED headlights out yet? some of em are bright as hell. don't know if they're being done yet. I'll have to check on that.

Oh I should perhaps add that I had the small coil connected upto a regulator/rectifier and battery.

The battery chucked out good power at first but after a while the power got far less and there wasn't enough charge coming in from the coil to keep the battery topped up.  After a while it was pretty much just depending on engine revs again.

I would like one of the Eline coil kits if anyone has one doing nothing and for sale as it would allow me to fully uprate the charging system.

That sounds typical of the joys of putting a headlight on the Kx500. I have a e-line coil sitting on the shelf with a brand new coil In It but Im torn as to what to do with It. I was planing to machine E-line sucks! in the cover but never got around to It. I had to send It back because the mag rubbed the stator this caused the coil to short and It stoped putting out the power It should. I had to argue with E-lines tech who kept telling me that the coil tested good with his ohm meter he couldn't grasp the concept that If there was continuity between the power wires coming out of the coil and the aluminum case that housed the coil  It has a internal short. After they had It for a month and talking to every tech they have and trying to explain that continuity between the power wires and ground (A.K.A. the case) was bad I had to get pissed off and tell them to stick a new coil In It regardless of what they thought. Funny thing when I got the coil back It did not have continuity between the power wires and the case anymore and It was back to putting out the power It should after I ordered a new magnetic puck from baja Designes because e-line turned mine down on a lathe to make sure It would not rub again even though I asked them not to do that and explained That It rubbed because my crank was out of true. I had to split my cases and have my crank trued so the coil would not rub all this was after I almost went out of my mind trying to figure out why the coil wouldnt fit my bike. I found out that you have to use a 94 or newer flywheel to put that coil on a older kx500 In 97 but they don't tell people that they just say It will not fit I can only imagine the grief they could have saved people If they would have passed this info on. screw E-line their lucky that their shop Is not within driving distance of my house If you have to have one of these coils buy It from and deal with http://www.bajadesigns.com/ even If they screw up they care about their rep enough to fix the problem.    P.S. Mr. E-line might be a genius but the people that work for him are not

So, you can put the lighting kit on any older KX500 by using a 94 or newer flywheel? I have what i think is a 1987 or 1988 KX500 that i am wanting to make street legal and i would like to have some system where it charges a small battery to keep the headlights at constant output even when you pull up to a stop and the engine idle isn't sufficient to light the way. Can this be done on my 1987? For a reasonable expense? What do I need to do here, i am ready to learn and maybe spend some money too.

My knowledge of the kx500 only goes back to 1990. It would count on weather or not the mag covers are the same and if the fly wheels and stators are interchangeable. These are things I bet Don46 could be of great help with

Jeez BDI, what an ordeal! I like it how some of these aftermarket outfits make some half-a**ed product that requires all kinds of extra work to make a sanitary/working install. And the best part is (for them), they keep selling! This is exactly the information I come here for. Sorry about your troubles, but at least it hones your mechanical skills.

So where is this Don46 guru guy when we need him? I have lots of questions and want answers before i start buying parts that may not fit or work
