So I have been looking at parts for my 1994 kx500. I looked at wiesco's page and it looks like from 88-04 the pistons are compatable. what is the difference in engine pistons and cylinders past 88...or what did they change?

87-88 model engine have diff. power valve system and porting and head shape, 87 piston had only piston ring but the piston shape was the same. I'm on my second top end on my 87 kx500 and each time I installed the 88-04 piston and ring set.
