KX500 supermotard ???
« on: July 09, 2007, 12:26:57 AM »
Hey guys,
any links or tips on how to convert a KX500 over to SM? I drove my buddies newly crafted 2007 Yamaha WR450F SM, and oh my god, what a TON of fun!!! I want one!! Thanks,

That seems to be everyone's reaction to them.

You going to street plate it or just a track machine.

Go over to www.supermotojunkie.com and search for Brian's KX500 tard. Looks hella good. Also Do0rdie on here has one so he'll chime in any time now.

My thoughts are, if your not going to get full on into racing then plate it first with some DOT gear and some dualsport tires.

Here in NH it's a cake walk to register a dirt bike for the street. All's I need is a headlight, mirror, horn, and a brake/tail light. So my plan is to add a Baja light kit, and swap it over to SM.

wildt167, that bike is awesome! Where did you get that front fender? It looks great.

also, what gearing are you running on it? I need to order chain and sprockets soon for my KX500 supermotard project

hi desert panther,
first off all thanx for the compliment
i did the coloursetting and reshape all by myself

now your questions about the fender ..
www.acerbis.com/it/fr check google for the exact adres
they have this fender here in europe i,m for sure in your country you can by it too

my sprocketsetting is front 15/  rear 42 ,
but its no shame going lower like 40/38/36 rear for highway use
only for circuit circumstances is 15/42 okay ,
i run mine flat out in 5th gear at the end of the longstraight

btw what rear tyre are you planning to use ,
for that the widht of the tyre will fit in your swingarm
160 mm is the max and you need an rearsprocketspacer about 4/5 mm thick
you can ask me more i shall try helpin you out
succes

That is one sweet ride I wish I could ride my kx500 every day on the street. Not to be off topic but I think the number plate headlight that comes on the new kx450r's looks pretty sweet for a number plate headlight.

wildt167, where is a good source of rear sprockets in sumo gear ratios like the 40 or 38 or 36 like you mentioned? It seems that all i see advertised are 45 teeth and up. Can anybody chime in with a stateside supplier for these?

i did see a glimp off it on the new KXF450 streetlegal enduro
but mine,s ok too for now

hey panther..

i,ve been looking for you for the rearsprocket,
www.renthal.com is where 41 teath is available by postalorder.

but i do know that 40/38/36 are made ,
and even other brand sprockets that are modified for the kx rearhub
like re-drilling holes to fit our hub.

reason for not knowing specific info
i,m using my streetlegal just for rides up too an hour or so ,
in builded areas (cityplayground)
then you wont need an 38 or so
and i come nowhere near the highway since thats my Kawasaki ZX-10 territory

did you find your fender yet on that site i gave you? :|

here,s a fiew more piccies of me and me friends and my beloved moto

oow btw the bald guy is me, not a thief figuring a way too steel my beauty haha

WildT,  you have a Zx10 as well? I see you are about as infatuated with Kawasaki's as I am, LOL   I have a ZX-12R (green color of course). Thanks for the tip on the fender, i'll be ordering one soon.

still looking into the sprocket situation. What size rims do you have? Are they laced to your factory hubs, or are they "all-new"? I'm debating on which direction to go for wheels, not sure if i want to do the hooligan mod, which is sportbike mag wheels and brakes converted to motard use. Except that you cannot jump the bike any more like a true motorcrosser. But d**n they look cool as shyte!

So where in Holland do you live? We in the states hear all kinds of great things about Amsterdam. Except the traffic infraction laws.  Is it true than you can legally stand on a streetcorner shagging a schoolgirl up the arse while smoking cannabis and not be in violation of the law? :-o But if you get caught speeding, they throw you in prison?  :-o

always me,

hi panther,

i have a ZX-10 /1000 last version of the pre ninja R series build 1991

now the questions ,
my rims are 17"
frontwheel 3,5x17
rearwheel  4,25x17

and yep the wheels are laced on the factory hubs
and i,m a motocrosser from origine so i wanna jump!!
i think its also the toughest wheel around the spoked wheel
but i agree the hooligan mod is nice for posing haha

and all you here from us overhere is true
here you can take a girl from behind,
all doped en smoked
we dance for hours during outdoor tranceparty,s
in towns as rotterdam amsterdam

with speeding its not as they told you
only above 50KM/H they take your permit for 10 days
and above an 100% violation (twice as hard ) they can confiscate your vehicle

the tickets are just huge up 1250 euro

oow here a pic off the big kawa

keep me informed about you progressions made ,fellow green mean freak

WildT, I wanna come visit! Sounds me and Amsterdam and Rotterdam would be getting along great!  ha ha ha ha  :-D

hey, when you converted your bike for street useage, what do you do about the fact that it has no ignition lock/key? I mean, can anybody just jump on your bike and kickstart it and ride away? Or do you have some sort of system such as a keyed ignition to prevent that????
