1999 KX 500 questions
« on: June 23, 2007, 12:29:21 PM »
Hi Guys,

My buddy got in over his head and bought the green beast, a 99 KX 500. He is about 5'5 and the bike is WAY too much for him. Not to mention we do a lot of tight and technical woods riding. I am helping him sell it so he can get a kx 250. Couple questions for you:

1. Where can you get a new or used, but straight subframe?

2. How much should he ask?
- The bike is clean. It has an FMF chrome pipe and exhaust, newer top end, and a few other things.

3. What should he buy for it to make it more appealing for sale and be worth the money?
-Graphics?
-New fenders?

Thanks for the help. I ride a CRF 450, but I am going to add another bike to the stable soon. A KX 250. I have always loved those bikes.

well as for subframe you can get it from eBay or oem part from kawa dealer.
the price for the kx depends also where you are going to sell it, where r u from ?
new graphics can make it look better, i know www.motogpworld.com are going to
have new graphics kit , i say new since most graphics brands don't make new style
kits... if fenders looks to bad change them, paint the frame...

Thanks davidvak. I live in Salt Lake, bikes go pretty quickly around here. I have been looking for a while and as far as 500's go, all I see are CR's for sale. Do you think getting $1800 for it is out of the question?

If the bike is in good conditions you can get that price.

Wow, those subframes aren't cheap. Thanks for the advice. One last thing. He had the seat shaved and a generic seat cover from an upholstery shop. Where can you get seat foam and a cover?

http://www.gutsracing.com has seat covers and foams.  A friend of mine has a guts seat cover on his bike and it is good quality for sure.

You'll think thats cheap for the sub-frame after you check prices on OEM sub-frame. I think they are like 350 with a backorder. Before you mount it up, make sure the frame mounts are not bent, and if they are try your best to align them back so the new sub-frame doesn't fight you too much.
