SCARY FAST CARB INSERTS / Power Now Carb Inserts
« on: June 29, 2007, 11:43:22 PM »
Anybody running a SCARY FAST POWER NOW carb insert? Do they work? I see a KX500 listing in Dennis Kirk and might get one if they do anything.

You need to check and see what carb you are running on you bike. You have an 87 kx500 right? Your carb throat is diff. than the 89-04 carbs. The stock carb for an 87 500 is a VM38 Mikuni. The 38 (38mm) is the size of the carb throat.

My bike is a 87 KX500 like you said hughes. I was just curious to see if they work. Dennis Kirk has them, but they don't have a listing for the 87 only 88-04.

Do these carb inserts work or are they something cooked up by savy salesmen for people who need every mod they can find for their bike?

Alan,

It's basically a blade that inserts on the airbox side of the carb.  It divides the opening horizontally.  Supposedly it gives you better throttle response and low end power because it eliminates turbulence at from 0-1/2 throttle.  I had one on my CRF and didn't notice a thing.

I've seen "carb inserts" that you put into the intake side (air boot side) of the carb to change the venture.  In my opinion anything you stick into the venture will take up space that air could be moving through.  Bigger opening equals more volume of air.  I would have to say thumbs DOWN.  Read their overview, I think 2 smaller ventures moving faster equals the same or near same volume of air without the "Scary Fast Power Now" device.  Maybe it makes your bike faster because you wallet weights less.

Yeah,it?s good for MX/Enduro and trailriding with stock 39mm PWK,it?s smoothing out and runs cleaner.I use "POWERBLADE" #PB02 for KTM 125SX,hate to write that brand. :-D

I'm running this insert, and I did find that it made a positive difference. I did find that the bike felt more crisp and responsive at partial throttle settings.  At full throttle, there is no difference, and if you were either at idle or wide open, I don't think you'd notice a difference.  But, if you can ride a KX-500 wide open all the time and never have partial throttle openings, you are my hero (and your last name is Lechein or Ward).
