trying to find if my fork travel is shorter.
« on: June 08, 2007, 09:38:36 AM »
first topic  :-D
i just bought 1999 KX500, in very good conditions. and love it already !
one of the previouse owners used the K5 for Supermoto and when today i opened
the fork to change oil i found that somone cut the front fork's springs...
now i don't know if they did also other mods in it that shortened the travel.
wanted to ask you guys if you could mesure the lenght of the external part of
the iner fork tube,  from the bottom to the dust seal (only the chromed part).
it should be about 110cm.
any help ?

The plastic sleeves inside springs at top of fork could be shortened... :|

the problem are the springs, when i opened the forks i found they
were shortened not the white plastic. maybe someone did it in the
past to use spring from another motorcycle, or maybe to softened
the forks or even to try to make it shorter.
if any of you guys could messure the the iner fork tube of his KX500
with out taking it off just the chromed part from the dust seal
to the bottom - that could be very helpfull !
thanks
