I think they are a different dia. I have a 2001 and a 1994. Do you like the color, is that why you want to switch?  I suppose you could maybe use some spacers or you would have to change triple tree's.

I believe they were 43 mm up until 95 or something then switched to 46 mm.  You could possibly utilize the entire steering assembly.

Yes I think you could although the main pivot may also be a different size. I think it would be a down grade as far as handling goes. Why are you looking at doing that?

Kawish,

If it is a 43mm Kayaba, which I am pretty sure it is, I have a spare 43mm Kayaba off of a 93 YZ125.  I bought them on Ebay for the exact same reason as you for my 96 WR250  and I actually used the fork cap off of a friends 95 KX500 until I found that set of forks on Ebay.  The plastic guides and several other components are different but the fork cap works.  Would you like to buy it off me for like 20 bucks with shipping?  That cap is like 70-90 depending on the vendor.

That's odd.  It must have come off the cap and smashed around inside the fork because there is no way a steel rod is going to get stripped by an aluminum cap.  Plus I just realized you have  2001 so it would not have worked.  Sorry about that.
