Not so lucky at the race
« on: April 25, 2007, 12:45:45 AM »
My son raced his first race in the 125B class. Got a bad holeshot and was nearly last on a short supercross track. 11 riders in his class. didn't make a full lap and he was up to fourth then came up short on a 40' double and crashed. Landed on his elbow and has a compound fracture of the humerous (upper arm bone). He's out for 3 months. He said he thinks he panicked on the face of the jump and let off. Pics in my gallery.

The smile came from the phentanol.

Now that he's had a little time to get over the broken arm part, I think his pride is whats broken the most.

5D,
There's something about kids getting hurt that really gets to me.
My daughter fell off the monkeybars the second day of first grade and broke the radius and ulna an inch or so above her wrist.
in the E.R. a nurse got quite irratated with me 'cause "I was glad she had only broken her arm."
"How could you say such a thing!" she replied.
She could have landed on her head and broke her neck, I said.. the nurse never said another word.
Hope Nick heals up quickly with no complications.

I'll put a good word in for you guys with the man upstairs.
 Take Care,
Tuck \o/

Friar,

Thanks for the words with the man upstairs. I've talked with him alot lately too. Nick said it the best in the ER when the nurse asked him if he was going to ride anymore, he said I've been doing this for 8 years and this is my first trip here!!

With the break he had I think I would have cried like a baby. He did'nt shed a tear until the xray tech lifted his elbow to put the cartridge under it. She did'nt even ask for help. I'm an EMT/Firefighter and went over and picked up his whole arm and got the cartridge under it. When I went through EMT class our instructors always said the best way to know how to handle a broken bone is to have one of your own to take care of. You learn quickly what not to do and how carefully you want it handled.

BTW he's doing really good already, he said there's very little pain.

Went to the Ortho Dr today. He said 4 more weeks in the immobilizer. Took the 15 staples out where the bone came out and at the incision to put the steel rod in. They said they could get the xrays on CD for me so maybe I'll be able to post some picks after the next 4 weeks are up.

Another Good Report,
Every visit to the DR. and things went well seemed to take a little more weight off my shoulders when mine got hurt.
Keeping you guys "in mind", Hoping things remain peacful at home and a speedy recovery with no complications.

No problems at all. He has good movement of the lower arm already and can bend the elbow slightly which they said not to do (but wanted to make sure of no muscle issues) because of new bone growth. No numbness or tingling.

We went back to the track this past saturday and they changed the jump he crashed on. Seems he was the 3rd of 8 that crashed on that jump. It had a real bad kicker on the left side and the landing was steep. He was really bummed because a bunch of 85's were jumping it.
