Hi,

I am interested in getting some extra rotating mass for the 500.  :)

I am just wondering if it is a weight you bolt on to the existing flywheel. If so - how? And do you need another generator cover (flywheel cover)?

If it is a totally different, bigger flywheel, do you need a different flywheel cover? Does it fit all existing stator plates (correct term?)?

Etc, etc...

BTW. We have nice weather here in the UK, I think the locals call it summer - it doesn't rain all the time.

The flywheel weight bolts to the crankshaft (takes the place of the stock flywheel nut) and uses little set screws (4 of them) set at 90 degrees apart to hold the weight to the flywheel.

As long as you're not running the Boyesen flywheel cover you won't need a new one. Fits great under the stocker. The one I have fits 1993 - present and can be found at http://www.steahlyoffroad.com

Great addition to the 500.  Easier starting, much better idle, no stalls in corners, and better control accelating out of corners.  Well worth the cash you lay down for the weight.  Wish I would have done this a lot sooner...

As long as you have a way to stop that motor from turning over you can do it with a 17mm socket and a 1/2" drive breaker (or big d**n ratchet :lol: ) bar. Then send you the little allen head for the set screws.

Paul,

Firstly, thanks for the information and secondly more questions...

There seems to differeces depending on the year of the bike.

Can you anyone verify if there is a difference in the flywheel between these years;
->89
89-91
92->

The reason I am asking is because I do not really know the year my engine is made.

I know from comparing the handbook with my bike (89) that there is some differences in the layout of the stator plate. Changes in the flywheel - no clue.

Also, are there any alternatives to Steahly on the market?

I know it's a bit of a long shot but are you the same John that I bought some KX wheels off last year?

Anyway Go here http://buykawasaki.com/Default.asp? and hover the mouse on the vehicle information bit then click on the view parts diagrams bit,  it should help you find what year your bike is

Hi Demographic,

No I havn't sold any wheels, I am actually looking for a set of MX wheels with brakes and all for the right price...

I do know which year the frame is from (89) but I am unsure about the engine. The previous owner worked in a Kawasaki workshop and the bike has lot's of mods. Fortunatly the 500 hasn't changed a lot through the years, I mean why change a winning concept?  :D
