'89 KX250

Hey Guys

After lurking for a while, I decided to join and wanted to say Hello and give a little background......
I've been riding for over 40 years and right now my KTM RXC 620 is my dirt rider. I had a '89 KX500
that I rode for 11 years but sold it in '00. I also purchased a pristine '89 KX250 in '92 that I don't ride
as often because there's not to many legal places to ride here in NJ

...but I'm considering buying a larger tank for the KX250 in Black and would like to know what manufacturer is prefered IE; IMS, Clarke

....also can someone tell me what the gas capacity is on the stock '89 tank.

Here is my bike collection and some NJ Pine Barrens style riding

Thanks

Hey, I live in the pines too. Ive met Dennis before also. Was that shot of him in the water near Harrisonville off of 563? In 89, Kawasaki made the tank on the 250 a little smaller than the 88 model, which was almost the same bike except for the forks, 18 inch rear wheel and the bigger tank. The 88 held 2.6 gallons and the 89 held, I believe 2.4. Kawasaki Team Green was able to fit a 89-94 KDX 200 tank and shrouds to their 89 ISDE team bikes. I think they held about 3 gallons and looked like it came from the factory. My g/fs brother has the IMS tank on his 02 500, which would be the same tank for your 250. Its fits well and holds quite a bit of fuel. By the way, Welcome to the site! Theres alot of good info. here. Will you be at the Mill Hall and Hancock dualsports?
A couple of 03 and 04 KXs, a few YZs, 3 PE 400s, a DR and a TS.

If your referring to Dennis with the KTM, then "Yes" that was him. I'm not sure where that lake/waterhole was, but there was couple of us that ride there regularly with him....Having had a KX500 and a KX250 at the same time, I used to switch tanks with no problem

What I wanted to know is what's the pros and con's of the 2 tank makers, who is better, who's colors are closer to stock....not like Maier plastics that turns white the moment it gets touched...

I'm not sure what rides I'll be doing,....I'm nursing a torn rotator cuff from the PB500 and not up to speed just yet.

I had Clarke tanks on a couple of YZs and CRs and they held up fine. Color match was as good as stock also. Ive also used the IMS tanks and have had cracking issues around the filler neck on both my 02 YZ 250 and my girlfriends 03 KX 250. IMS replaced  both of the tanks, no questions asked.
