how bout why would the gas be leaked out of the rear shock on a 93 500 whats leaking or needing to be replaced?

I do not know if the shock assembly would bolt up, but I am currently running a 95 - 98
(not sure) rear spring.  It was the same length and works fine

The shock will mount up, the valving will be different, might be better. I run a 2002 KX 250 on my 2000 K5. As far as the gas leaking, it could be the shaft seal  has failed, or could be the gas leaked out over time. When was the last time the shock was serviced? I do mine at a minimum of annually and on the race bikes every 1-2 months.

don't know when the last time the shock was serviced. lookin at buying one here in the next couple of weeks. its got a lot of new parts and a new top end done, but the rear shock is out of gas... ...he says he's checked on getting it done, and its gonna run about 100$ don't know, I haven't checked myself...but I have a shock and spring from a 2001 kx250 in the garage thats all good. just hopin I could put that one in there, or does anyone know how much to get one rebuilt. any help is good...thanx!

I guess I wasn't clear, I would have that 01 250 shock mounted up so fast it would make your head swim. The 250 shock has a heavier shaft than the 500, plus as a bonus it has high and low compression. If it was just laying around I would use it even if you have to have it revalved, do the 250 shock. Unless your going to be doing some hardcore racing the 250 shock will be fine, you may need to use the 500 spring. I would think your kawi dealer will change oil and recharge for $50-75, If it needs a new seal thats about another $50-60. usually if they have been ridden with no gas pressure the seals will fail and your oil will be lost. You can tell if oil is lost by removing the spring, stroke the shaft back and forth there should be a constant resistenance, if you get to a point where the shaft moves easily you probably need oil, and frankly if it hasn't been done, do it, you won't believe how much better your bike rides.

I don't have the bike yet to see if it'll mount up. didn't know if it would all mount up or not. since the 250 was so much newer. now that 250 shock and spring worked great for me on the 250, and I'm pretty big. and yeah, the shock is out of the 250 and sittin on the shelf. thanx man!

thats cool,  where bouts you at in the world. is the gas charged in it? how much would you want for it?

I'm in Colorado, and I'm not sure if the gas is charged because my bike was disasembled when I got and I never used so I'll have to check, but it looks to be in real good shape.  If it has a good charge, I'll sell it to you for $50 with the shipping.

I checked the charge, it read 43 psi.  I'm not sure but I think thats too low.

mmmmm...not sure what its supposed to be. I don't have the manual for the 500, but I'll check my manual for the 250, it aught to be close to the same I would think...appreciate you checkin that though.
