Interchangeable parts between model years
« on: December 27, 2006, 01:09:54 AM »
What years/models share common parts.  I'm looking for model years with interchangeable parts with a 99 KX 250.  I think the 98-01 250's were basically the same bike, just looking for verification.

years 99-02 use the same plastic, bikes are pretty much the same with minor changes to suspension components. The 02 forks are different, the upper diameter is larger than the 99-01. Other than that you could use most of the other parts, actually can't think of anything you couldn't use. The 98 is different, there may be some interchangeability but 99 was a model change.

The reason I ask, is since my son has taken over my bike, I need to get a bike for me. I've found a 01 KX 250 that has been sitting for a while. The boy who owns it, should have been on a 125...  He may be 135lbs wet.  The 250 is way too much bike for him.  He prefers quads, and is thinking about selling the KX and getting a 4 stroke.

I've had a new 250 every year since 98, other than the forks and triple clamps parts are interchangeable, the motor is basically the same all the way to 03, different porting and head configuration, CDI and ignition may be different as well. the pipes will work on those years as well, they are slightly tuned different to match the porting. I ran an 00 pro circuit on my 01, it pulled harder out of the corners. brakes pads, discs, wheels, rotors, swingarm (250 only 125 shorter), plastic, seat, pretty much the whole bike. Even though the part numbers won't necessarily cross most parts are interchangeable with your 99 250.
