problem areas
« on: May 22, 2006, 04:06:55 PM »
Hi everyone
I'm interested in knowing what problems has everyone experienced  their 500.  What parts have broke, bent,  come loose fell off ect...  Dont include jetting and suspension.  For me the mounting tab for the pipe under the tank cracked.  The rear tire rubs against the silencer.  Foot peg bolts come loose.

Week kick starter on older models. Suspension bearings are a good place to look at. Steering head bearings, you know same ol stuff that craps it on most bikes after a few years. Mines done nothing out of the ordinary tho. Mates 96 destroyed the rear wheel bearings and blew the hub out. Later ones have a 3 bearing hub.

Upper mount on right radiator, weld on reinforcement.  Radiator air guides, silicone them to rad.  Angry friends at dunes because they can't get around you; have them purchase a KX500 too.
