Alan, The top clamp is the what your handle bars are connected to. The front forks slide up through them. Let me know when you get that shop up and running I would like get those collars turned. Thanks.

The collars would need to go between my forks and the top clamp. The inside diameter of the newer clamps is larger than mine. My front forks are about 43 or 46 mm in diameter(where they slide through the clamp). Newer forks like yours are larger in diameter more like 48 or even 50 mm.

All I need to do is measure my forks diameter and than I need to measure the newer 250's forks and than make a collar that will make up the differance. Then I can order a new top clamp that would let new run different bar heights and positions. :-o

My 01 forks are 54 mm where they go through the top of the triple clamp. Paul told me that them jumped up 2 mm in 04-05 on the KX250, but it would take some machining to make them fit.
Here are some pic's of mine, tell me what it is you want to accomplish?

Alan, I want to use a top clamp from a kx250 like timbowe did. This would let me move the bars up and down and forward or aft. I will need a collar that would take up the space between my 43 mm forks and the 54-56 mm clamps.

Are you sure your forks are 43 mm! I will check my forks on my 94 at work today and get back with you! I do I have a spare set of complete trip clamps also and I think the will fit an 01.

My 94 is 52 mm and my 01 is  54 mm and thr 04 250 must be 56 mm un less I am mesuring them in the wrong place. OK I figured out the problem! I was mesuring the top trip clamp oppening not the working part of the fork tube. So my 94 is 43 mm and my 01 must be 46 mm.

Alan, You need to measure the end of the fork that slides up into the clamps. Remmber I have the old school forks not the inverted kind.

Rockymountainatv/mx.com has top clamps for 2003 and newer kx250's for $99.99. This top clamp has adjusted forward and aft setting and you can get different bar risers mounts for only 30.00 ranging from 35mm to 55mm of height. I may order a set and then measure my forks and then measure the inside dia. of the new clamp and then have collars made. But I need to recover from the two hundred dollars I just spent on springs.

Ok now that we are on the same page! If you wanted to run smaller dia forks in a newer triple clamp it would be very easy to turn spacers an then slit them so they would grip the fork when you tightened up the triple tree clamps.

That's what I want to do. I have a hard time typing out what I want to say. I'm buying one of those clamps from rockymoutain here shortly after I recover from the springs I just bought. Allen if you are any good :-D with that machine shop I might put you to work :-D

Do you have material? Looks like these collars would need to be made out of solid alumn stock that is round in shape.
