Great site! I've been a fan of big bores all my life and now I have my own. I picked up a 96 kx500 at a crack head deal of $200. It had a very abused life and needs a complete going over. At the price I couldn't pass it up.

I work parts for a Kaw,Zuk and Honda dealership and people always come in with bikes and quads they just want to get rid of. the wife is somewhat understanding although she did say that if I bring one more bike or quad home it will be divoce court time.

Anybody from North Carolina on here?

 :-D :-D Welcome! :-D :-D

It's great to have a Kawie dealer guy in the forum! I hope we don't beat you up with questions.  I just bought a 94 kx5 dissembled in a box my self and will be starting the reconstruction soon.

We have been trying to figure out a chart to show the differences in the kx5 parts over the years, maybe you can help out with that project.

So how many bikes do you own? Does your wife ride?

I live in rockingham and work for sport cycles. I'm trying to get my wife into riding. I bought her a near mint Rt180 for dirt cheap but i got to find a kickstarter for it. She wants to learn but dosn't know how. I tryed teaching her on my 98 cr250 but that wasn't a good bike to learn on  I traded in my 01 ZX11 for some crf's for the kids so she wants to learn and take some trips with the yunguns.

As far as bikes go I own a 98 cr250, 96kx500, 94 rt180, 2 lt80 quads, xr100, crf70, crf80,yz80,trx300,spare 98 cr250 minus the motor,86 fatcat,and a gokart. Ijust sold a pw50, 93z50, and a near mint 81xl185s.(you now see the divorce court issue.).

I bought a motocross track it used to be called Bar 2 Bar.I have it open but not in full swing. It's nice having one in your own back yard and working for a dealership. I just send my customers to the house.

I got to get some time to take some pics of my build up.

When I bought it the dude said that it needed just the top end. He didn't know anything about bikes and said that he road it up untill it messed up. Meaning the last time he road it the kickstarter wouldn't come back up and it ran and sounded funny. So instead of calling it a day  he pinned it on the highway trying to get home before it left him stranded. Needless to say it locked up and dumped him on the highway.

The result was the water pump seal had failed filling the crank with water. not to mention the exhaust pipe had been cracked in half a long time ago. Dude pulled the engine out of the frame and stoped there. The whole tranny was rusted up.

Ebay has been my best friend so far on my build as far as gears go. I bought all new bearings and seals just haven't had time to install them yet. I still have a ways to go but it will be worth it.

Any info anyone needs I will be glad to lend my service.
