Someone correct me if I am wrong , but I think it would be the same as the on I just posted a few days ago. :-DSorry I just went back an read your comments. I didn't know there was a difference that year, although I will bet you could interpolate based on the different bore size. :?

i appreciated your info Alan, i did use the wear limit for piston wear from your figures (0.012" limit), got 0.018". i thought i'd try a different tack for info with the 86 manual.  it is the bore size that is the important factor if anyone has this? i will know then if i need to rebore.

Sorry dude I was going to check that spec for you last night. I think my manual covers that year bike. Here's the problem. My home computer is not up and running at this moment and I will be on vacation unitl Wednesday. If I see that you still have no info reguarding the bore size I will post it Wednesday morning from my work computer.

It took me awhile to find out how to put this so everyone could use it. Donnie in the office helped me so any thanks should go to him. He's the computer guy here, knows his stuff but we don't tell him his head would swell. You should be able to double click it. Will open in word. Good luck, let me know if you need more info.

thanks again guys. i didn't expect to get this much help. Danger- this is great, although it does not show the actual bore diameter, no need to scan the previous page, but i would appriciate it if you could just post the service limit for the cylinder bore dimension please?

You were right, what you needed is on the previous page. For some reason Friday I could not log on to the net. Then weekend family stuff came into play. Had to come home to tend to the dog. I snuck down to the office to post what you need. here goes...

                    Engine Service Specifications (KX500)

                              New                              Service limit
                             mm  (in.)                        mm   (in.)

Cylinder head warp limit                                   0.03
                                                                  (0.001)

Cylinder diameter
  1983                      86.000-86.015                 86.10
                              (3.3858-3.3864)               (3.390)

   1984                     86.010-86.025                 86.10
                              (3.3862-3.3868)               (3.390)

1985-on                    86.020-86.035                 86.10
                               (3.3866-3.3872)              (3.390)

I double checked the numbers that I typed, be confident they are correct.
