If I had to guess...

I would say it has something to do with the way the oil acts based on temperature. Snow mobile oil would obviously be better formulated for cold weather characteristics (mixing, resistance to spereation, etc...) than a racing oil that would probably be used in a motorcycle in a temperature band somewhere between 45 - 90 degrees or so.

I use Amsoil Pro @ 100:1. I can't offer anything on the snowmobile oil, it won't hurt the engine I know that but I don't know if it has enough shear strength to run @ 40:!, 50:! or whatever. Whatever the recommended ratio is should be on the bottle though. Thats what I would start with.

Is that Sabre 100:1 Amsoil your using Paul? I'm still using up the last few bottles of Interceptor 50;1 that I bought a 18 months back when the N.Z. ditributor told us that they were going out of business and had no one to take over. So I scored the last of thier remaining stock. 8 dozen bottles! Sold quite alot though. I buy large quantities for my trucks and cars, bikes also. So there is allways a heap of spare stuff lying around which I pass on at just enough to cover costs plus a bit for my time. Every body should be using thier products !! They are the best money can buy.
