250 - 500 rear fender conversion.........again
« on: March 15, 2006, 10:44:42 AM »
OK guys I ordered a 93 250 fender but ended up getting a 94-98 fender by ufo but I figured I'd take it home and have a look anyway and bring it back if it diden't fit.  Yes its way different that the 500 fender but its more point and less droopy.

Just wondering if there is much of a diff between the 93 and 94 250 fender, in other words is it just as well to keep the 94 fender and do the conversion with? I'm probably going to cut the 500 fender and mate it to the 250 fender for a cleaner conversion.

They are different according to my parts manual. But I can't tell you what the difference is. I imagine you could get it to work. I know with a '93 fender you have to trim it around the air box.

Sorry not to be much help.

I ended up using a 92 kx250 fender, It looks great and required very little trimming. Maybe I'll try a 93 after I loop her over and see if it's any better.

Are you asking to loop your 500?

Last time I looped it, I couldn't walk for a few days and seriously screwed up the fender.  :-(

well I just tried a 94-98 250 fender and its shat!  In hind site I should of looked closer at the kawi schematics because the pre 94 fenders look to have the same bottom section where it fits into and bolts into the air box.  I cut the s**t out of the 94 fender to make it fit some what but I'm less than pleased.

So do I chance it and buy a 93 fender and try it again or just go back to the 500 fender. Does the 93 fit nicely one a little bit of trimming is done?

There is a certain amount that has to be trimmed. But it is not that bad. Secret is to just take a little bit a time and keep going back to the bike and fitting it up in the spot to see if you're doing the right thing. Mostly at the front rounded section and a little bit on the sides at the front. I used the bench grinder to slowly take back the areas that needed to be trimmed. A bit at a time. The rear bolts holes where it screws up to the frame can be a bit tight but once in and bolted they are no worries. The key is to have a nice fit around the back of the airbox. Shapped to fit up snuggly. If you can suceed here, it almost can look factory. Good luck. :-D

I couldn't get my 93 fender to fit as nice as I wanted. I ended up cutting it in half and rivetting it to the bottom half of the 500 fender. Very succesful. I have some pics I will post in my gallery. The 94 fender might work this was since you only need from the side mounting holes back. Cam.
