Since lot's of people are checking out the forum but there aren't many posts I decided to post one!

What's your riding habits, how frequently do you ride your machines?

I must admit that I am a weeked warrior. I have not done much warfare lately though. I am getting old and comfortable. Brittle bones and all that...

I guess I am a fair weather rider as well. I am waiting for the spring and some warmer weather.

There is no ice in this this country, just rain and mud. Takes longer time taking the bikes to the track and cleaning them after than I can ride them.

I'm pretty lucky.  I have one of the best riding areas in Canada 15 minutes away and I only work 4 days a week.  That being said I still don't get to ride as much as I'd like.  We have quite seasonal weather with fair temperature variation.   Winter we get snow so I concentrate on skiing with the family Dec to March.  During April and early May I generally work 7 days a week so I end up starting the riding year about June.  By mid-July it is usually 90-100F most days, so we head to the lake until the end of August. September and October is prime riding. Generally get snow again by the end of October.   Being over 40 I don't have too many riding buddies in town, but my friends drive down about 400 miles (from my old home town) to meet me here for 3-day weekend hero rides. They come for the terrain. On days that I'm not riding with my wife and kids (we all have bikes)  I generally go out to my favorite area and invite myself along with one of the many groups out riding.  Usually meet lots of nice people this way and get some good rides in.  Lots of good riders live in the area. For example on one ride, three of the guys had #1's on their bikes which I though was a touch odd.  Found out part way through the ride that they were the current Canadian Enduro, Cross-country and Ice racing champions.  It was a blast to ride full out like that. Takes me back to the glory days, but much of the time I am out riding with the kids wearing out 1st gear. But it's worth it.  This year was a poor one for me in terms of riding. I started my 12 year rebuildin January but worked too much and didn't get it together until May.  Got 2 rides in then tore my ACL and CCL wakeboarding and did nothing but hobble and rehab all summer.  Knee is holding up OK for skiing and the bike is  prepped, so come this May look out!!!  Cam.

Cam,

You are a lucky man!

My problem is that I am old enough to have the funds to buy a bike and the kids have grown up a bit - but I am working tooo much. I have a 8-8 work and I am too tired to do anything when I eventually get home. Weekends are for rest and recreation - with the family says my wife. I can influence this but I guess she's right with that priority.

I have looked in to these enduro holidays in Spain or wherever. Looks tempting to just ride a bike not having to do all the washing up and mechanical work. But then there's the small thing about funds and priorities against house renovation, cars etc.

Who am I to complain anyway, I have some MX bikes that works but I don't have the time to ride them. That's a luxary problem...

It is winter here in Michigan and I ski every weekend and one weeknight. In the Summer I ride my kx every weekend, and at least one weeknight. I average about 15 gallons of fuel a week. I am lucky because in the evenings I can ride out from my back yard into the fields. But on the weekends I head North. Northern Michigan is not very populated and is very wooded, it has many trail systems that are mapped and marked. Those trails are completely legal to use. I have several MX tracks close to where I live and even one great practice track, but I have never been on them, I have never raced motorcycles. I just turned 50 last Sunday, I am skiing and riding the KX500 faster than I ever have. But when I crash , I now take a little longer to heal.
Spring is here and the Mighty 500 wants to ride.

Michigan has the best groomed and mapped trail system, check out the Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan trail maps.
