-01 KX250 crankcase repair or replace?
« on: October 03, 2023, 04:04:19 AM »
Hi all!

I have what I think is a 2001 KX250 that I'm restoring back to working order. Disassembled the engine for overhaul, and noticed that there is a crack going through the output shaft bearing seat on the left crankcase half. The case has been welded at some point by a previous owner, but they apparently did not do anything to the bearing seat surface.

I'm now wondering whether it would be worth it to have a shop fix the crack by welding and machining the seat or should I just forget that and buy a used left half on ebay. If replacing it is the way to go, am I correct in the assumption that any case half between -97 and -01 would work?
I live in the EU and pretty much all of the used parts I saw for sale are located in the US, so the final price for the case depending on the year and listing would end up being something around 350 to 650 USD after shipping, VAT and customs duty (roughly 1.3 times the price + shipping).
