Swinarm Pivot Bolt Removal
« on: November 28, 2005, 05:59:35 AM »
For some reason or another my swingarm pivot bolt will not come out. It is a 1985 KX250 where the bolt goes through the frame and the engine case. Any ideas / hints? Thanks in advance

Heaps of WD 40 and a brass drift. Tap away at it. Can only come out 1 way.

Like timbowe, be VERY VERY careful. You will mushroom the threads and make a serious mess. The brass drift is to keep it from damaging the threads as brass is soft compared to the steel. Good luck.

I know this is an old post and I guess this is no longer a problem but;

Loosen the nut from the bolt and thread it out 5mm or so ( or until it becomes flush with the end of the bolt) and use a brass / cupper hammer on the nut. If you do this you will not damage the threads or the bolt. Make sure you have enough threads inside the nut otherwise you will rip both the bolt and nut.

When I read through this, it does not make sense to me. I hope someone understands what I am trying to say.
