YOU dont hone heads for a start ,you mean the cylinder and then you need to know if it a coated or a sleeve been fitted as i doult a 98 is still orignal coating so you need a good bike shop to measure and tell if it coated or not . no use putting a new piston in a worn cylinder , it might need to be recoated or rebored if a sleeve is fitted , then you need to check piston to head clearance to see if been machined before as the head could have to much compression or it could be warped or not flat any more as that could be why the head gasket blown , there other things to look at to , what fuel you running not some low octane pump fuel these engines require the best you can afford. what jetting you have is it to lean , is the air cleaner in good condition and oiled properily is the crank seals and bearings good as well as conrod runout , are the engine bolts tight and not putting stress on the head mounts to flex the head to make the gasket leak.and while it apart dont for get to clean power valve components and time correctily
