2009 KX250F Poor Handling in Sand
« on: January 31, 2021, 08:28:35 AM »

Hello Everybody,

I have a 2009 KX250F that handles terribly in either deep or moderate sand. It handles great everywhere else. I had the suspension rebuild for woods riding, and had not ridden it before this. And I admit I have not set the sag yet. But when it gets into sand, the front end wants to abruptly grab and knife-in and tip the bike over. I softened the front suspension, put on new tires and adjust my weight forward or back, but none of these seem to help. Any suggestions on what I should look at to get it to handle in the sand? My 2004 KX250F or 2001 KX250 never had this issue and otherwise I love my 2009.

Thanks, Paul

Lower the forks all the way in the triple clamps. Also, firmer is better in sand so the forks dont dive and transfer all the weight forward. You of corse need to get your rear sag set correctly first too.

Apart from setting bike up properly for the conditions especially for sand,Sag and rebound must be set correctly then if you want to go to the next level the next best thing to do is put on some 22 mm off set triple clamps i have a set on my 09 , far better then std off set, its amazing what a few mm will do in the right direction.Another trick is to use 2010 kx250f dog leg which is a mm or bit longer which lowers rear end a tad and stiffen the first part of the stroke of the rising rate up in the rear suspension.

Tire pressure  8-)
The four stroke engine: That's one stroke for producing power and three for wearing the engine out.
