Kx500 snowbike light
« on: December 24, 2019, 09:46:30 AM »
Hey guys I just picked up a light kit for the ol kx 500 and it's an AC low draw light you can just hook up no mods. My question is what wire do I tap into for power?

Stock on the 500, there is none.  You need an upgrade my friend.  Or a battery that can run it for 4-5 hrs.

This new light that came out ties into your electrical, I just need to know the output stator wire

Can you post up pics of this light or at least the wiring instructions?

Do what I did and get a Ricky Stator 50W auxiliary coil. It easily bolts to the kx500 stator plate and has 2 wires which produce ac current for your aftermarket light. I also put a regulator and 12v lithium battery on to power a trail tech computer but you don't need to. Without the regulator your light may fluctuate brightness a bit at lower rpms.

it ties right in ey?

you're gonna need the ricky stator gizmo, or whatever they are calling the penton/pvl ignition system these days.

No need for pvl depending on the wattage requirements of your light. The ricky stator is 50w and has 2 wires of ac current to directly go to a light. I have mine powering a baja designs 25w led perfectly fine.

This light uses either one or two watts, I just touched the positive wire to one of the stator wired until it turned on! It works on the stock stator

If it is really only 1 -2 watts that shouldnt be an issue for the stock stator but are you sure about that wattage? That is very low even for an led. Maybe its 1 or 2 amps which would be 12 to 24 watts? That will compromise your spark power if its that high.
