Urgent:Will 1995 rear wheel fit on my 2004
« on: October 25, 2005, 06:28:37 AM »
My friend is in another state and went to a swap meet and found a 1995 18 inch Kx500 rear wheel.  Will it fit my 2004 K500? My friend has to leave in one day. I called the Kawi bike shop and they told me they think it might fit. The hubs have different part numbers from 95 to 04. Parts man says the axles are the same. Don't want to buy a wheel that won't fit, please help.

The paddle tire I bought was on a 97 wheel and it fits my 04 perfectly.  Dont know about 95 rims yet.

I don't believe so. I think the hubs are alittle off. I will check though. Check a microfitch.

When did the wheel change to 3 bearing hub? Should be the only difference tho.?

I want to stay with the 3 bearing hub. Just my luck, I've been looking for a long time for a good 18" wheel that's used. I want the extra wheel for when we ride sand, it will only get used 3 or 4 weekends a year. I hate to buy brand new just to sit in the shop most of the time.

Gowen, a big thanks if you can figure this one out, or anybody else.

The '04 has 3 bearings the '95 is going to have 2. They both use the same swingarm and same bolt. I'd assume it works, the only thing that catches my eye is the rear brake plate. Check partsfish.com. It looks like it might work.

Thanks to everyone, I think I'll pass on this wheel and find the newer wheel for my bike.

My parts guy says the 95 wheel most likley won't fit. He says the brake calp. mount is different on the 04. 1997 was the year they went to 3 bearing hub. Thanks to everyone who gave input. I'll keep looking for 1997 or newer.

Your posts made me wonder, so I double checked my 97 wheel again. It is a three bearing hub.
